Our History
Surrey Services for Seniors came to life in 1981 with the seed of an idea
The first Surrey office was in the attic of a Radnor home, where Jeanne LaRouche organized her neighbors to help their senior neighbors who needed rides to doctors’ appointments and assistance with grocery shopping. Steadily growing, Surrey moved from Jeanne’s attic to the Radnor School District Building. From there it was to a small location in Berwyn and eventually to “Surrey House,” a renovated home also in Berywn. Today, Surrey now serves 5,400 seniors each year. This grass roots organization, though significantly larger and with a vast array services, the “neighbor helping neighbor” philosophy continues.
